Pain2022ImageCombinedFor our 26th year we are back virtually and our focus remains on the busy health care provider who may be seeing a complex persistent patient in pain and needs to know the latest evidence-based way of improving their quality of life. The course will review pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies for some of the common causes of pain seen in clinics. The logic of interventions such as trigger point therapies and understanding the pitfalls of urine toxicology testing will be discussed and more. Our aim is to give the participant information that can be included the very next time they see a patient suffering from pain.

As part of our course we will also be featuring a few complimentary lectures on state-of-the-art topics at 12:15 p.m. PT the week of the symposium . We hope you'll join us for some, or all, of the offered programs to gain practical knowledge and further ability to care for patients with persistent pain. Our theme this year is Greek movies, so look forward to fun trivia throughout the program!

Intended Audience: All health care providers who treat patients suffering from acute, chronic or peri-operative pain, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, allied health professionals, and residents. The conference will be most beneficial for the following specialties: Family Medicine, General Medicine, Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Pain Management, Pharmacy, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Objectives

Overall Course Learning Objectives:

By attending this course, the participant will provide better patient care through an increased ability to:

  • Discuss and apply evidence-based treatment and guidelines to improve care for patients with chronic and acute pain including those in an inpatient setting
  • Ability to evaluate headaches, spondyloarthropathies, neuropathic pain and myofascial pain syndromes including trigger points
  • Review opioid tapering, new Bree Collaborative opioid guidelines for older patients, and common misconceptions on positive urine drug testing
  • Discuss multidisciplinary therapies for pain management including psychology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and interventional and neuromodulation therapies

Swedish Medical Center designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.25AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

For Nurses
AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ are accepted for Washington State RN Continuing Education requirements as well as for application and renewal of specialty and advanced practice certification through both ANCC and AANP (1 CNE hour is equivalent to 1 CME hour).

American Nurses Credentialing Center - ANCC accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ from organizations accredited by the ACCME.

American Academy of Physician Assistant - AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ from organizations accredited by the ACCME or a recognized state medical society. Physician Assistants may receive a maximum of 7.25 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ for completing this course.

PTs/PTAs in Washington State:
In Washington State courses provided to Physical Therapists (PTs) and Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) do not need to be pre-approved by any official authority in order for the PT/PTA to receive CEUs. It is the responsibility of the PT/PTA to determine whether or not a course is applicable to their scope of practice.  Please review the course content on this website to make your determination.  If you deem this course eligible and attend, after the course you will receive a completion certificate listing the hours of education received from the course for your submission records.
PTs/PTAs form other states needing to confirm that their state boards of PT will approve the CEUs they have received from the course as requirements may differ by state.

Details

The COVID pandemic has perhaps caused the most disruptive and innovative changes to the practice of medicine, and pain management care was no exception. Managing comprehensive care plans for patients with pain was already complicated before this pandemic with changing opioid prescription guidelines, new non-pharmaceutical care options, and evolving techniques and recommendations. Health care providers need strategies and information to give patients with pain the best evidence-based, comprehensive care options during these changing times.

Millions of people in the United States suffer from chronic pain, and pain treatment and management spans across most medical disciplines. Despite huge strides in understanding pain, major gaps still exist between that understanding and consistent pain diagnosis and treatment across specialties and communities.

This symposium will give health care professionals the knowledge and skills to navigate pain management for patient care in an increasingly changing world. The course will cover the evolving areas of pain management including the latest evidence-based ideas on evaluating headaches, spondyloarthropathies, neuropathic pain and myofascial pain syndromes including trigger points, opioid tapering, and BREE Collaborative opioid guidelines. This information will enable attendees to update their practices for this emerging online healthcare world and provide the best multidisciplinary care options for their patients with pain.

Pre-registration is required as space is limited. Participants who register by the "Advance Registration" date will receive a reminder email after Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022.  Registrations will only be processed when accompanied by full payment.

Cancellation
To receive a refund, notice of cancellation must be received no later than Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022.
